When is the last time you read the Lord’s Prayer? As a Baptist preacher’s kid I grew up knowing the Lord’s prayer, but not from memory. I mocked other’s for spewing it out from memory with no thought. In my attempt to NOT be that way, I never looked at it with my own heart. The intended instructions, knowledge and understanding were lost on me. It became “just” a verse, I really didn’t want to be like the other’s blindly reciting it.

But do you know the Lord’s Prayer? Take some time today to familiarize yourself with it again. I am not encouraging it to be blind memory or to be learned in Latin…. but it is Scripture, God breathed, good for correction, instruction…. I find when you are in times of need, when not a thought can be formed in your head. Scripture memorized will flood back in. These verses ARE worthy of study and memorization.

Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)
After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.
