Verse: Ephesians 3:11-13

Posted by in Devotions, Scripture

This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him.
Ephesians 3:11-12

We are to have boldness as we approach God…

Boldness:
not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring:

Confidence :
full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person/thing:

  1.  The promise
“eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord”
this is the promise that wqas given to Adam, Abraham a perfect sacrifice for us
this is the promise that Christ fulfilled.
  2. The Holy Spirit
“And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”   Galatians 4:6
As Christians with the Holy Spirit have confidence  that the Holy Spirit makes our heart cry known to God, the scripture says that when the father wants to know us he gets to know us through the spirit who knows our hearts.
  3. Faith  Where do we get our faith in God?  From his Promises to us.
The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deuteronomy 33:27)
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident. (Psalm 27: 1, 3)
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11: 28-31)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

Christian be confident, be bold be courageous in your faith

John Calvin in his commentary on the scripture says “Faith produces confidence, which again in its turn produces boldness.  First we believe the promises of God; next by relying on them we obtain confidence, which is accomplished by holiness and peace of mind which again, in its turn produces boldness”

I love this passage because Paul continues with his statement “ do not lose heart…”

So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory.
