Shower Thought: The “walking the extra mile” wasn’t for the benefit of the Romans, it was for the working of humility of the doer.
 
So many times we get in danger of letting our fleshly pride getting in the way of the work of the Lord. Learning the mirrored face of Christ’s righteousness is the reflection of his humility. This is an area of growth we need to foster in our spiritual lives.
 
This humility of Spirit is a fruit that is produced at the working of the Lord. It is in this Spirit we have opportunity to display the righteousness of Christ. As we grow operating in this Spirit of humility it pushes away the fleshly reactions and positions.
 
Do we see humility as a thing to be obtained or as a gift of God?
 
Matthew 5:41 (ESV) And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

2 Corinthians 10:18 (ESV) For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

James 1:21 (ESV) Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

1 Peter 5:6 (ESV) Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
